It was created in 1720 on land devised to the Haberdashers' Company (hence the name)

Watchman, (c1640?), Cries of London, (c1819?) mb-width 4555 Heygate was Alderman for Coleman'Watchman', (c1640?), dressed in a wide brimmed hat and long coat, carrying a lantern and spear. From Cries of London, (c1819?).
